Journalism

I have contributed for nearly 15 years spent on the sports desk at Telegraph Media Group – seven of them full-time – amid great change in the industry. When newspaper freelancers were cut across the board in 2008, it left a gaping hole in how ‘general sports’ – from badminton to sailing – were covered, and that’s largely where I have focused in recent years.

Since 2010, I have covered every Olympic and Commonwealth Games, many World Championships and World Cups – for the Evening Standard, Telegraph, Reuters and Daily Express to name but a few – and met many fine athletes along the way, many of whom have put their trust in me to tell their stories, either as exclusives or in book format.

Elsewhere, I was the first journalist to interview Andrew Strauss MBE before his England call-up, the first national journalist to report on golfer Matt Fitzpatrick, spent a day with the world’s strongest man , traced the Lillee v Botham trotting story in Adelaide, spoken to 10-year-old swimmers at major Championships and sat agog as England’s Roses scored a last-second point to beat rivals Australia to netball gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
